ENGINEERED WOOD PRODUCTS

Engineered wood, also called composite wood, man-made wood, or manufactured board, includes a range of derivative wood products which are manufactured by binding or fixing the strands, particles, fibers, or veneers or boards of wood, together with adhesives, or other methods of fixation to form composite materials.

I-Joists

What are I-Joists?

  • I-Joists are more versatile than open web floor trusses, and more uniform and dimensionally stable than lumber. They can be trimmed on-site, and long lengths allow ceilings and floors to be designed with fewer pieces, saving installation time. Build sturdy, stable floors with wider flanges

Benefits of I-Joists:

  • Quick Installation: Weighs less than traditional lumber.

  • Cost-Effectiveness: Long lengths allow ceilings and floors to be designed with fewer pieces.

  • Peace of Mind: Less likely to split, shrink, twist, warp or bow.

  • Durable Design: Larger nailing area and increased stability.

  • Sustainability: Wood sourced through programs certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

  • Lifetime Limited Warranty: Extensive product line backed by warranties you won’t find with traditional lumber.

How I-Joists are made?

  • Combines laminated veneer lumber (LVL) or finger-jointed sawn wood flanges with a web of oriented strand board (OSB) to produce an I-shaped structural member.

  • Both materials work together to resist deflection, bending stresses and shear.

  • LVL and MSR lumber flanges up to 3-1/2˝ wide for greater stability.

LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber)

  • What is LVL?

    • LVL is a strong, straight and durable framing product made for superior performance. It can be used in place of traditional lumber for greater consistency and design flexibility.

  • Advantages include:

    • Protection: Water-resistant coating protects during construction.

    • Peace of Mind: Consistent, accurate sizes and resists warping, twisting and shrinking.

    • Strength: Ideal for high-load applications.

    • Sustainability: Wood sourced through programs certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

    • Lifetime Limited Warranty: Products backed by warranties you won’t find with traditional lumber.

  • How it's made:

    • Ultrasonically graded veneers are arranged in specific patterns to maximize strength and stiffness

    • The veneers are bonded with exterior-grade adhesives under pressure and heat, resulting in low moisture content for dimensional stability
